Amsterdam Open 2016
20/11/2016 - Sporthal Karelrijk, Amstelveen
Today a big part of the Gracie Barra Groningen Jiu Jitsu team together with coach Ezra took the journey to Amsterdam. Everybody was motivated to show the ability to compete and gain experience. The Amsterdam Open began 11 o’clock, so the team arrived half an hour earlier for the first weigh ins. Everybody made weight so the competition could go on.
White Belt
First was Tom, in the -76kg division. He dominated his first two fights in an impressive manner and showed that he belongs in the final, where he lost by points. Therefore silver for Tom in the gi division! He also competed in the nogi division, where he lost his second fight but it was really close. In general an impressive performance by Tom.
Up next where Philip and Shane in the 82,5kg weight class. First to go was Philip for his first tournament fight. He showed great effort but lost his fights. But still he gained a lot of experience in this tournament. Shane was next to go, and he won his first fight with an armbar within 2 minutes. His second fight he “won" by dq, his opponent went for a wristlock. In the half final he lost by armbar after an intensive fight, but still was happy with his performance. Up next was Jan, he won his first fight solid by points. He lost in the second round by points, but still showed a good performance and also gained experience for the next tournament. After that it was the big boys turn.
Barney and Martin, both with only a bit tournament experience, were highly motivated. Big Boy Martin lost both of his fights, but his opponents a hard time. Barney only won his first. Both of them learned a lot in this tournament, which they want to apply in the next one.
Tanne just went rousey mode in the women's -60kg division and won all fights by armbar. She submitted all her opponents till she had the gold! Technically an impressive performance by her in Amsterdam!
Blue Belt
After the white belts were done, it was time for the colored belts to show off. It was time for Monti to show his skills in the blue belt nogi -68kg division. After he won his first fight by submission, he lost his second fight to a leglock.
Everybody was satisfied with the own performance and everybody learned from the fights he or she fought. The Gracie Barra Groningen Team was happy to compete at the Amsterdam Open and will come back even stronger next year! On to the next tournament in Groningen on the 18th of December.
